Lorraine K. Cavataio
Lorraine is a shareholder with Mathis, Marifian, Richter and Grandy (MM&R), who focuses her practice in estate planning, commercial litigation, real estate, and probate.
Lorraine has more than 10 years experience in representing a wide range of clients in matters involving mergers and acquisitions, tax objections, commercial and residential leasing, trusts and wills, estate and trust administration and tortious interference. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has effectively resolved numerous estate tax issues over the years. Her proficient knowledge of the court systems throughout the Illinois and Missouri state courts and the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has also been beneficial in providing superior legal counsel to her clients.
Lorraine’s experience in the estate planning practice has made her a well-respected informational lecturer, and she has been invited to various seminars on numerous occasions to speak on several different topics pertaining to estate planning. She has also authored chapters for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) in the area of estate administration.
Professional Affiliations
Lorraine is a long-time member of the IICLE, where she currently serves on the organization’s Board of Directors, as well as its Board Development and Audit Committees. Lorraine’s other memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, the American Bar Association and the Missouri Bar Association. She also serves in the Probate Section of the Illinois State Bar Association. Locally, Lorraine is a member of the St. Clair County Bar Association, where she served as the organization’s secretary in 2003 and was previously a board member.
Community Involvement
Lorraine currently serves the St. Clair County (West) Rotary Club as the District 6510 Conference cochair, and she is a board member for the St. Clair County (West) Rotary Foundation. She has been involved with the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce since 2000, where she currently serves on the Government Affairs Committee and the Quality of Life Subcommittee. She also serves as a board member for both the Meredith Memorial Home and March of Dimes.
In the past, Lorraine has volunteered her time to help Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Downtown Belleville YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters and as a mentor for Southwestern Illinois College. During Pope John Paul II’s visit to St. Louis in 1999, Lorraine also served on the Steering Committee and as the Gathering Site Coordinator for the Papal Mass.
Education
Lorraine received a BS in Accounting and Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1991, and she earned her JD from Washington University in St. Louis in 1995.
